Enemies

It's
not uncommon for a yoga teacher to ask his or her students to send warm wishes out into
the world—it could be toward a family member,
neighbor, or a complete stranger. For most of us, this probably isn't a terribly difficult
task. After all, why not try to spread a feeling of kindness if it might make life more
tolerable for someone else?
It may be a different story, however, if you're asked to send out love and warmth toward
someone who has hurt you in the past—a former
boyfriend or girlfriend, husband or wife perhaps. But what if the only way to heal old
wounds and move on with your life were to do just that?
Today, take a few minutes at the end of your practice to send positive energy toward
someone you evokes less-than-positive memories for you. While positive thinking won't
correct the mistakes this person may have made, it will remind you that you’re capable of love and kindness. If you can extend those feelings
toward someone who has hurt you, you will be able to take comfort in knowing you deserve
the same.
