china and tibet 7-23 july 2004: aces workshop and field trip

stopped in chicago on the way(?) to beijing, met up w/ dibbs for a white sox pounding and this shot in front of the skyline
view of beijing from the hotel.
after the meeting ended, we were taken to the acrobatics show. very impressive!!!
sand dunes in dunhuang, our first stop on the field trip to tibet. not nearly as hot as death valley, but i still managed to smell after being here for less than 1 hour.
altyn tagh - a not-so-subtle fault gouge zone (lighter rock is gouge)
surface evidence of the 2001 kunlun rupture. again, not very hard to spot.
w/o a doubt, the two best-looking men on the field trip, rockin the sunglasses and braving the fault zone
view of the mountains from a geothermal plant. steam was rising from a water tank and i was feeling artsy. i blame the elevation.
a glacier in action.
tibetan mastiff... the trend of dressing pets in goofy clothing is, sadly enough, universal. if this dog could see itself w/ bandana, it would probably eat its owner.
potala palace from a distance. this is the most important destination for buddhist monks.
