What is a patent?
A patent is an IP right granted by the Govenment of the United States of America to an inventor. Patents can be used to exclude others from making or offering for sale the invention throughout the United States or importing the invention into the United States in exchange for public disclosure of the invention when the patent is granted.
Utility patents may be granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful process, article of manufacture, or any new and useful improvement. Design patents may be granted to anyone who invents a new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture.
