Note:  Still divided about the ship building scene, so I present them both side by side. Once again, significant changes are presented in blue.

Into the Sky

INT. CHILD’S ROOM - CLOSE SHOT—DAY—PRESENT
A child’s bedroom floor is covered in crayon drawings.

INT. PAN UP:
A little girl (KAYLEE) is sitting at her window looking at the cloudy sky above.  The ocean is right in front of her house and the waves can be seen from this shot.

EXT. MEDIUM SHOT
A sea gull flies by.  Another bird, flying so much higher that it’s unidentifiable, morphs into a fish.  A commercial passenger plane morphs into a rowboat.

EXT. MEDIUM SHOT (other side of the window)
Kaylee continues staring up at the sky, but then looks down at a picture frame in her hand.

INT. CLOSE SHOT
Picture frame contains a photograph of her family.  In it, she’s happily sandwiched between her smiling mother (LESLIE) and father (BRANDON).  Brandon is wearing an astronaut space suit and the emblem of NASA is in the background.

INT. PAN UP:
Pan up from the picture to the horizon ahead.  It is gray and blurry: a sure sign of rain.

EXT. MEDIUM SHOT
Kaylee gasps with excitement and drops the picture.  She runs away from the window.

EXT. MEDIUM
Her feet run by, kicking up the crayon drawings.  One particular picture, workmen standing on clouds and fixing leaks in the sky, sticks to the camera before sliding down, serving as the transition.

TRANSITION TO:

EXT. (slightly) LONG SHOT
The front door opens and a large cardboard box clumsily lumbers down the steps.

EXT. MEDIUM SHOT
Leslie follows the box, a slightly smaller one in her arms filled with tape, cutting utensils and a clear plastic bowl.

EXT. MEDIUM
The box lumbers forward on the sand when it is suddenly overturned, revealing Kaylee underneath.  Leslie sets her own box down and pulls out the tape.

EXT. MEDIUM
Leslie tapes the box closed and turns it over.

EXT. MEDIUM
Kaylee uses a pair of scissors to cut fins out of the extra box.

EXT. LONG SHOT
The mother and daughter continue working.  Leslie cuts a large hole in the top and Kaylee starts drawing on the sides.

FADE TO:
EXT. LONG SHOT—LATER
The cardboard airship is done.  The mother and daughter admire their work.

EXT. MEDIUM
Kaylee swings open the bowl lid and hops in.

EXT. (slightly) LONG SHOT
The front door opens and Kaylee scampers down the steps, dragging a cardboard airship behind her.

EXT. MEDIUM SHOT
Leslie follows, carrying a plastic bowl with duct tape and a book inside.

EXT. MEDIUM
Kaylee continues to drag it along until she reaches the sand.

EXT. MEDIUM
She hops in and Leslie tapes the bowl on one side on top to act as a lid. Kaylee then opens and closes the lid.  She then opens the lid, stands up, and gives her mother a salute.  Leslie salutes back and Kaylee closes the lid.

EXT. MEDIUM
Leslie kisses the bowl approximately where Kaylee’s forehead would be (possibly marking the bowl with lipstick or perhaps not).  Kaylee giggles and kisses back.

EXT. LONG SHOT
Leslie then walks back up the front steps, sits down on the porch, and opens her book.  Kaylee, in the meantime, stares at the sky and waits for it to rain.

PAN UP:
To cloudy sky.

TRANSITION TO:
Raining sky

PAN DOWN:
To airship.

EXT. MEDIUM
Kaylee sits up very suddenly at the sound of rain against the bowl.  She starts up the airship and it starts to hover.  After a bit more fiddling, it shoots up into the sky past the clouds.

DOLLY/PAN UP:
Following the ship from ground level to the clouds.

EXT. LONG SHOT
Workmen standing on the clouds are working diligently to seal up the holes.  Suddenly, Kaylee bursts through the clouds and flies around, searching for an unsealed hole.

ZOOM IN:
From Kaylee’s point of view to the closest unsealed hole.

EXT: MEDIUM
She smiles brightly and heads for that hole, but suddenly finds that her ship isn’t flying as smoothly as it was earlier.  She gets startled when the workmen start climbing up to the bowl lid.

EXT. MEDIUM SHOT
The workmen scramble over to her ship, trying to weigh her down and prevent her from flying.

EXT. MEDIUM SHOT
The leader is hanging on the front, genuinely worried about Kaylee’s safety.  His wild gestures clearly tell her to go back down.

EXT. MEDIUM SHOT
She shakes her head with an innocent and amiable, but stubborn expression on her face.  She then looks down at her controls.

INT. CLOSE SHOT
She presses a button on her console.  (I haven’t decided whether this is crayon drawing on cardboard or an authentic looking control panel.)

EXT. LONG SHOT
The ship shakes off the workmen.

EXT. CLOSE SHOT
One of them accidentally takes off one of the fins in his desperate attempt to hang on.

EXT. LONG SHOT
The ship successfully escapes, but is having a bit of difficulty.  It manages to get through the unsealed hole.

CUT TO:
EXT. OCEAN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SKY-LONG SHOT

ZOOM IN:
Brandon is sitting on his space shuttle, fishing.  The shuttle itself is next to a floating space station.  Brandon is in his spacesuit, but isn’t wearing his helmet.  He feels a tug on his line and pulls.

EXT. CLOSE SHOT
A fish pops out of the water, glistening in the sun.

EXT.  MEDIUM SHOT
Brandon reels this in and takes records of it on his clipboard before throwing it back.  He then recasts his line and waits.

EXT. CLOSE SHOT
Ominous bubbles start appearing around the place where he cast his line.

EXT. MEDIUM SHOT
Brandon stands up and cautiously watches, prepared to head back inside the shuttle.

EXT. (slightly) LONG SHOT
Kaylee’s ship suddenly surfaces next to his fishing line.

EXT. MEDIUM
Kaylee pops the lid open, wiping the sweat off her brow.  She soon spots her father and yells out joyously.

EXT. MEDIUM
Brandon’s yell is equally joyous.

EXT. LONG SHOT
He runs up to greet her and she jumps out of her ship and into his arms.

EXT. LONG(er) SHOT
Brandon and Kaylee pull the airship on to the shuttle and examine the damage.

PAN UP:
From this touching scene to the sky above.

TRANSITION:
From sunny sky to a sunset.

PAN DOWN:
From sunset sky to the family’s house by the sea.

EXT. MEDIUM
Leslie looks up at the sky, noting the time.

EXT. LONG SHOT
The cardboard airship is still on the sand.

EXT. MEDIUM
Leslie gets up and walks toward it.

CREDITS ROLL
EXT. LONG SHOT
Leslie opens the ship, gently picks up the sleeping girl, and carries her inside.
