Skid
Row
One of the great shames of Los Angeles would have to be its massive population of homeless men, women, and children. Throughout the years, LA’s homeless population has exploded, leaving many to live in tents or in the streets in a concentrated area of Downtown known as Skid Row. Skid Row is a 50-block area of Downtown Los Angeles, whose official boundaries are between 3rd and 7th streets and Alameda and Main. Altogether, it contains one of the largest stable populations of homeless people in the United States.
The Skid Row Housing Trust is a wonderful organization based in Downtown LA that offers permanent supportive housing to homeless men and women living in Skid Row. The Trust not only develops, manages, and operates homes for the homeless in Los Angeles, but also provides a complete range of support services necessary to move beyond poverty, illness, and addictions.
