Alex Ovechkin, aka The Bull
Alexander Ovechkin will go down in history as one of the greatest and most prolific hockey players ever to grace the ice of an NHL arena, mark my words.
This is not news to anyone who is a fan of the game. The greatest thing about Ovechkin is that even casual fans, or people who could care less about hockey, for that matter, have heard of him. He rejuvenated a moribund fan base in Washington D.C., leaving the Verizon Center a packed sea of red for every home game. Residents of the Nation’s Capital are as passionate about hockey now as can be and cheer for the most successful professional team in the area. All thanks to Ovechkin.
Ovechkin is a goal-scoring machine. And he plays with such tenacity that it is a lot of fun to watch. He is just as happy to lay an opponent out as he is to score a goal, and he does both quite often. He skates fast and has a booming slap shot. But the most powerful weapon in Ovechkin’s arsenal is his wrist shot. Watch him play sometime, his wrist shot has such a vicious snap that as soon as you see him initiate the shot, the puck is already in the net.
In the first year of a 13-year contract extension with the Capitals and with 239 goals to his credit already, Ovechkin still has a lot to offer hockey fans for years to come – from flashy goals to big hits.
