What
does WCA do?
1. Events
– Social/Networking,
Professional/Creative Development
- If there’s an event you’d like to organize, contact:
Felicia Dickerson (MFA, Screenwriting) fpd.tech@earthlink.net
- Shona Kulkarni (MFA Production ’06) shonakulkarni@hotmail.com
2. Website/Newsletter
– The WCA website:
www.womenofcinematicarts.com
is fast becoming one of the most important career resources for WCA alumnae.
3. WCA
“Reel Talk” Conference – An opportunity
for students and alums to interact with some of the most influential players
in the entertainment industry through a series of keynote speakers, panels,
and moderated discussions. If you’re interested, check out the “Upcoming
Events” section of our website.
4. Improving
the SCA Women’s Experience–
- a. Filmlink – Networking event that connects like-minded women.
Producers seeking scripts may meet with writers, or a writer may potentially
find a writing partner here.
b. Brunch Month – Meet 8-10 WCA members you’ve never met before
in a casual setting. Exchange ideas about career, projects, etc.
c. Writers’ Seminars – Meet with established writers who’ll
offer advice and life experiences.
5. Expanding WCA Members’ Network
– Not everyone in Hollywood went to USC. WCA has already begun forming
relationships with the alumni boards of UCLA and Stanford, and with organizations
such as Women in Film, the Alliance of Women Directors, and Women and Wine.
How can I participate?

How do I join the WCA?
To be added to the listserv or to become a WCA member, visit the “Membership”
section of our website.
Is WCA membership too time consuming?
Our first priority is to our careers, and each of us will go through phases
when our work leaves no time to spare for the WCA. That’s when our
fellow members will step in to pick up the slack. We’re here to help
each other.
How did the WCA come about?
We realized there was a vacuum and we created an organization to fill it.
Before the WCA existed, there was virtually no forum in which USC women
filmmakers could make contact with peers outside their immediate circle.
We were all strangers when we didn’t have to be.
Now it’s possible for USC women filmmakers to have more collaborative
and supportive relationships. We all know the statistics. Our best bet for
any kind of success in this industry is through forming the kind of relationships
that this organization facilitates.
No one here wants to be excluded from the Boys’ Club. But
they’re not the only Club in town anymore.
