My Philosophy

My philosophy revolves around my belief that all children are capable of succeeding and have something very positive to add to our society as they grow older.  The proper classroom environment and instruction is vital if we are to have our children succeed and be wonderful contributors to their communities.  I plan on focusing my efforts in urban education; the most disadvantaged students need the most attention if we are to move towards leveling the playing field.  I graduated from an urban high school and know first hand the challenges that students in that setting deal with.

In paying close attention to test scores, which today are so vital because of No Child Left Behind, I have observed that the difference in scores between urban elementary school and urban high school is so dramatic that it has led me to decide to focus my efforts on 4th, 5th, and 6th grade.  Middle school is where most urban students have their scores plummet with little recovery for the remainder of their secondary education lives, and because of this, I plan on sending my students in to middle school prepared to deal with the challenges they are sure to face.
