History
This brief summaries of meetings are written by Nathan Siler, who is a VCS journalist.
- VCS Meeting 9/25/00
Attending the meeting were Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Nate Siler, Anna Marsh,
Sandra Lloyd, and Steve Amstutz.
We were lucky to be joined by the SGI National Student Division Leader,
Daisaku Leslie.
We discussed the value of chantting in our lives. Chanting moves us towards
an enlightened. The vibrations of our chanting put us in harmony with the
vibrations of the universe. We also discussed the fact that through
chanting, we can physically change the DNA in our bodies!!
A particularly inspiring moment came when Daisaku quoted the movie
"Braveheart"---"Your heart is free, have the courage to follow it!"
- Buddhist Religious Director (9/14/00)
I had the great privelige to meet briefly with The
Venerable jongmae Kenneth Park, the new Buddhist Religious Director at USC.
He is a very kind and caring man and I suggest you stop by to introduce
yourself to him. His office is URC 201. He asked me to tell everyone that
the USC Buddhist Association meets every Tuesday from 4:30-6. Additionally,
VCS can use the fishbowl from 7:30-9 on Tuesday fro whatever purpose we
want!
Also, there is a multi-faith meeting on Thurs. Nov 9. he asked me if it
would be possible for VCS to participate on this meeting. He suggested
possibly chanting or perhaps an introduction on "Why we chant." It is really
quite open and we can do whatever we want if anyone has suggestions.
- VCS Meeting 9/3/00
Meeting commenced at 8:00 PM with evening gongyo.
Attending were George Artope, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Matt Millar and Nate
Siler.
Discussion began about the USC Religious Diversity Fair on Sept. 13. Does
any one have any ideas? We are going to try and show the SGI movie with
perhaps some Korean drummers and dancers (cross your fingers!!) Also, any
input on booth/table setup or decoration would be greatly appreciated.
