Announcement for 3/1/06:

Hi fellow Linguists!

It's time to start sending in your nominations. You can nominate yourself or you can nominate someone else. Either way, start sending in the names and the positions you want that person to hold. You have until the end of this week. I'll remind you of the positions:

President (or Co-prez..) - a.k.a head honcho, the big cheese, whatever. You get to make all the big decisions. I know I'm graduating this year so there's one spot to fill. Mo will still be around although she has to run again so if someone wants to challenge her that would be pretty exciting stuff!

Vice President - helps out the Prez. It's like being president only with slightly less accountability.

Secretary - this is one position not to be overlooked. Nathan is our current secretary and he is way important. No one would remember a thing from our meetings if it weren't for his efficient and effective notes.

Treasurer - not to say that we have lots of money to throw around... ideally, the treasurer would be in charge of finding funding through the various channels like the discretionary board so we can have free food wherever we go. Plus, once the t-shirts start selling like hotcakes there'll be money to keep track of and budget.

Web Master - we do have a website and the web master (currently Mark) is in charge of keeping it current and uploading pictures from events and all other USIL activity. We gotta show off to other majors and show them what they're missing.

Events Coordinator - someone to help us figure out what/when/where/how to do all the things we want to do.

Professor/GSIL liaison - a lofty title for a pretty nice job. This person would be in charge of contacting professors and members of GSIL to either plan dinners or coordinate events, whichever is appropriate.

And if you have another position in mind that you would like to have, I'm open to suggestions. Also, feel free to run for more than one position. By the way, if you are currently an officer you too have to run again so send in your names if you want to stay an officer next year!

Everyone is welcome to run and don't worry if you're not sure how to perform some of the duties for a position because we'll help you out before we hand it off to you. Send your nominations (with the name of the person and the position(s)) to usil@usc.edu.

Thanks guys,

Sarah Anderson
USIL Co-President
