USC Taiwanese American Organization (TAO) 南加大台美學生會

Welcome to U.S.C. Taiwanese American Organization

The Taiwanese American Organization at USC promotes the awareness and exploration of Taiwanese culture. We provide an opportunity for fellow members to socialize with each other, meet new people from similar or different backgrounds, and also just have fun! This club is for Taiwanese and Taiwanese-American students, and anyone else who is interested in Taiwanese culture. We are a non-political organization.

We hosted the 2005 ITASA (Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Student Association) West Coast Conference, and it was a great success! There were many interesting speakers, workshops, great food, and great people. Thanks to everyone who came =). Check out some pictures in TAO's facebook account (USC TAO)!

Last year, 2005-2006, we had potlucks, a bowling event with UCSB, USC football game/pizza parties, a trip to Knott's Scary Farm, Taiwanese food workshops, Taiwanese Casino Night, dinner outings (we love to eat, what can I say)...and went to UCLA for the 2006 West Coast ITASA Conference!!!! =) Hope you all had fun!

This year will be PACKED to the brim with lots of fun aqnd new events, people, opportunities, games, food, you name it... and we have the 2007 ITASA Conference at Stanford to look forward to!

USC TAO is a student organization that is just as unique as it is unprecedented. TAO takes the revolutionary role of integrating the Taiwanese culture with students of differentiated cultural backgrounds. It is also because of this mindset that TAO has, in its first few months of creation, enjoyed the enrollment of students from all over the world - including Brazil, Malaysia, and of course, the United States.

The diversity that TAO enjoys makes it one of the best student organizations promoting the Taiwanese culture at USC - "THE" most ethnically and culturally diverse university in the United States. While TAO has the primary focus of expanding the knowledge about Taiwan and its culture, it also puts great effort into tailoring its events and programs towards students of varied cultural backgrounds. This is to ensure that they are just as much of a learning experience for those new to the Taiwanese culture as a socializing and networking opportunity for all.

In addition, USC TAO also aims at fostering leadership and looks forward to inspiring the community with its participation in the annual Intercollegiate Taiwanese Student Association (ITASA) conference. This is an event that gathers members and representatives of student organizations, in a conference setting, to endorse the Taiwanese culture and strengthen the bond between Taiwanese American students from universities around the US. Last year, USC TAO had the honor to win the bid and hold the ITASA conference on the USC campus. Amongst last year’s participating schools were, to name a few, NYU, Boston University, Stanford, UC Berkeley, UCLA and UCSD.

This year, USC TAO continues to work hard. Apart from a possible repeat of last year’s ITASA West Coast Conference, TAO is also planning to hold events such as a Taiwanese Night Market Festival and Leadership Retreats.

Needless to say, USC TAO welcomes all. This is undoubtedly an organization where you not only learn about a culture, but live a culture; not only live a culture, but express a culture; not only express a culture, but be a culture.
