Erdem Unal received his BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Southern California in 2002 and 2004. He is currently a PhD. student at University of Southern California and a Research Assistant at Signal and Image Processing Institute under supervision of Prof. Shrikanth S. Narayanan and Prof. Elaine Chew.

Erdem wanted to be a circuit designer, however finally figured out that, life is pointless without music. He is currently working on Music Information Retrieval(MIR) related topics, including Query-by-humming, uncertainty quantification, music fingerprinting, polyphonic music retrieval and tonality modeling.

Erdem plays the guitar and the piano. He is an extremely competent bridge player (favors full SAYC, but can play everything else), fairly good at chess but terrible at Texas Hold'em. He won medals in teamsports (handball and basketball) while he was in primary school and highschool.
