Having served as 2009-2010’s Programming Director, I have an understanding of the time it takes to complete all of these tasks. Moreover, the familiarity I have with these tasks allows me to complete them in an efficient manner and utilize more of my time to improve upon the quality of our inter-member programs, our high school outreach program, and our end-of-the-year formal.

Thanks for reading!

“OMG! Ate Nicole?! AAAAHHHHH! We’re a matchmade in heaven.” “One-derful? One-derbrah? Oooone. Wait. What’s up with the fornicators? WAIT! We can be One Night Stand! Get soooome.” “Dude, how long is this meat gonna’ take to cook? I want my nom noms!” “Booooba???” “Where’s our after party?”  “Who’s buying the food?” “Jordan, keep your pants on.” “Stop sluttying.”

These are a few memories that I have collected over my past two semesters at USC. Still, there are more moments that have left an imprint in our minds for every general meeting and social event. In the school year of 2012, I hope to bring the members of USC Troy Philippines closer together and greater enhance cultural awareness to USC students. First, I strongly believe that I have the qualifications to be an innovative and efficient Programming Director. Given my ability to communicate with all personality types of people, I can bring equality and enthusiasm to the activities in which I will plan and coordinate with other appointed leaders. Through my experiences as a youth leader at my home parish as well as an ambassador for a nonprofit organization called Caution Edutainment, I recognize my full dedication to achieving the mission statement of the organizations in which I am involved. I want to create more opportunities for family bonding, cultural workshops, alumni-mentor programs, Kuya/Ate-Ading competitions, philanthropy events, and senior questionnaire panels. I strive to make USC Troy Philippines diverse in its mission by forming social, personal, and professional relationships between the members of Troy Philippines and between Troy Phi and other USC organizations. USC Troy Philippines is the first organization that welcomed me to be a part of its family. I want the experiences of incoming students to be a reflection of my own experiences in Troy Phi. Thank you for your nomination as next year’s Programming Director. I will do my ultimate best to give our members a year they will not forget.

So people have been talking about Troy Phi as a family. But what does family actually mean? Well… one of the best people I know says it perfectly in one of my favorite movies.

Lilo from Lilo and Stitch.

Lilo: “Ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten.”

Troy Phi is my Ohana, my family. We not only have fun together but we support each other. Family takes care of each other and I am here to take care of you.

Like Lilo mentions, “Nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten.” As Internal Vice President, I will never leave anyone behind whether it is a board member or general member. I am very proud to be part of Troy Phi and I want to ensure its presence is known at USC and that we are not left behind or forgotten.

One of my goals as Internal Vice President is to try and reach out to different organizations within APASA and USG to establish new friendships and deeper roots within USC. I hope to do this through events such as:

  • Having resume building workshops or speed-dating interview sessions with professional organizations such as the Asian American Business Association (AABA)
  • Teaming up with other APASA culture clubs to host an Asian Festival to celebrate and spread awareness of Asian culture with Nikkei, CASA, KSA, etc
  • And collaborating with service organizations to give back to the community such as the Helenes or Troy camp

Although I would like to reach out to other organizations, I will never forget that Troy Phi is my main priority. I will do my best to address your needs whether it has to do with Troy Phi, school, or life.

This Troy Phi Family is my Ohana and as Internal Vice President, I am here to make sure the rest of APASA and USC know that Troy Phi is one of the best Ohanas anyone would be lucky to have.

Goals

  • Provide the members of Troy Phi with the same embrace Troy Phi gave me when I arrived at the doorstep of THH 210.  I want to make everyone feel welcome by providing an embracing home for members both inside and outside of meetings.  I will reach out to everyone in the club to ensure no one feels left out.
  • Improve member relations not only within the club but also with other SCPASA schools. This past year, we only had several meetings and collaborations with other schools, but for the 2011-2012 school year, it is my goal to integrate USC with many other collegiate Filipino organizations through collaboration meetings/outings.  I will use my SCPASA connections to make events like these happen, and I want to have these at least once or twice a month.
  • I will devote a considerable amount of time to Troy Phi, going above and beyond my duties as EVP to fill gaps where they appear in order to facilitate the progress of the club.

Qualifications

  • This year, I was appointed Social Chair where I planned the Christmas dinner and arranged carpools with my co-social chair, Jeff.  But other than that, my role on E-board was not specifically defined.  I took this opportunity to develop my role into what I wanted to do as a freshman E-Boarder in Troy Phi: socialize with members, make them feel welcome in the club, and help plan more social events.  I was also able to work with other people on board.  This semester, I worked with the Fundraising Chair and Programming Director to plan the basketball tournament and Troy Phi Formal.
  • As a first-year in Troy Phi, I already made several connections with students from other SCPASA schools.  I delight in connecting with people from Pasadena City College, UCLA, LMU, and other Filipino organizations, and this actually inspired me to run for this position.
  • Most of all, I feel that my presence in Troy Phi has made a positive impact towards the growth of the organization.  I am accessible to everyone both inside and outside of meetings, and I take the initiative to ensure everyone is enjoying themselves.  For me, it is easy to walk up to anyone and have a good conversation with him or her without feeling shy. I can relate to anyone I meet and be liked for my hospitable character.  This quality, I believe, is one of the most important qualities for External Vice President.

I am so thankful for all the friendships and moments I have had in this club.  If elected EVP, I will give back tenfold what this organization has already done for me in the past eight months.

Greetings to all the general members of USC Troy Philippines,
Having been both a general member and an E-Board member for Troy Philippines during the first half of my college career, I am overly excited to be running as your External Vice President for the Fall 2011- Spring 2012 school year.  As EVP of Troy Philippines, I plan to focus on three main goals throughout the school year.
The “Face” of Troy Philippines
As EVP, I am the main representative figurehead of Troy Philippines both at general meetings and at various external functions.
At general meetings I plan to do the following:

  • Be a welcoming host to both returning members, new members, and SCPASA
  • Use my charm and “over-the-top” personality to create a pleasant environment and captivate the attention of all those in attendance

As an E-boarder I plan to do the following:

  • Use my positivity and sassy quirks to maintain good morale within E-Board

Recruiting the Next Generation
The recruitment of members and maintenance of membership within Troy Philippines is an issue of high importance.  I plan to increase Troy Phi membership with the following:

  • Collaborating with the Social Chair(s) and Programming Chair in hosting “Troy Phi Rush Week” during the first week of school in order to welcome new potential members, inform them about Troy Phi, and gain their interest
    • Social events include dinners, exploring Los Angeles/LA Live, exploring USC, and a Troy Phi Welcoming Party
  • Making lasting impressions on new potential members at Involvement Fair and APASS Involvement Fair
  • Collaborating with alumni in recruitment strategy
  • Focus on creating a Troy Phi “One Love, One Family” theme to create a welcoming sense of family, unity, and home for both new and returning members

The Importance of SCPASA
I plan to create and maintain strong relations with the SCPASA community and recognize the importance of SCPASA as a center for networking and outreach.  In terms of SCPASA relations, I plan to do the following:

  • Attend all SCPASA Collabs throughout the school year, attend all SCPASA-sponsored events such as Board Games, Friendship Games, and Summit, and attend 1st general meetings of various SCPASA organizations
  • Increase general member attendance to these SCPASA events through the use of hype event meetings and heavy promotion
  • Create a general meeting that collaborates with the general meeting of one or more SCPASA orgs

OPTIMIZE TROY PHI
Troy Phi is unbelievable, dynamite, “so fresh” and practically any other superlative you can find in the dictionary, but that doesn’t mean we should be satisfied with it. Sometimes complacency can prevent us from achieving greatness, and I don’t want that to happen. So let’s make it better.
This is the project I attempt to introduce with my candidacy. I want to optimize Troy Phi.
What does it mean to optimize? A quick Google search will tell you that it involves improving something to peak performance. In mathematics, this means to find the best solution. In business, it means to improve efficiency. What does it mean in Troy Phi?

  • It means utilizing our collective spirit and energy to attract new members while maintaining the vibrant, family-based social atmosphere that will retain current ones
  • It means not letting any conflicts, circumstances, or biases interfere with that family
  • It means structuring our programming and general meetings to give our members a rich, cohesive and rounded experience
  • It means discovering what both sides of  Filipino-American culture mean to us, whether that be through studying the ways of our ancestors overseas or living the American dream right here in LA
  • Most of all, it means being proud of Troy Phi.

This represents my vision. I am not asking Troy Phi to be perfect. I am asking Troy Phi to be the best version of itself. To be optimal. I want this to be reflected in how we promote TMF, how we interact with APASA and SCPASA, how we approach our general meetings, how we recruit for TPYC, and heck…even how we party because we even do that like nobody else.
Serving as this year’s Programming Director and as a general member the year before, I’ve seen Troy Phi from nearly every angle. I’ve witnessed our shortcomings, suffered with our trials, and triumphed at our successes. I also know our strengths: Passion, love, energy. These will be the tools that, if used correctly and genuinely, will guide us from good to great, and from great to optimal.
I feel that my experiences with and service to Troy Phi have prepared me to lead this organization through our mission, and I would be honored if you would grant me that opportunity.
For the love,
Kristoffer Escudero

From my two years in Troy Phi, I have gone from being shy and unwilling to try new things to feeling comfortable in my own skin.  I have been able to learn about myself, explore new things, and take risks that I probably would never have done on my own.  Because of this club, I have developed some of the closest friendships in my life.  Being in Troy Phi has definitely defined my college experience so far, and I feel compelled to give back and allow someone to share my experience.  I hope to fulfill this by serving as your President next year.  As such:

  • I wish to develop genuine connections and maintain healthy relationships with everyone on E-Board to keep each individual member satisfied and focused on the interests of the club.  From my experience on Board this year, I believe it is key for everyone to develop chemistry in order for us to achieve our goals.
  • I would like to challenge some of our strategies regarding our major events, such as The Mabuhay Festival or Troy Philippines Youth Conference.  From my observations, we can often give too much focus to specific details or come under stress in planning out these events that we forget about our purpose to serve others.  I want to make sure we don’t lose sight of the big picture and always keep our goals in mind.

  • I would like bring a focus to the Filipino culture.  In my opinion, Troy Phi during the course of my two years has been primarily a social club than a cultural organization.  Throughout the whole year, I would like to keep interest and allow people to explore different aspects of Filipino culture.  In the past, I’ve felt that the cultural relevance of the club is sometimes restricted to the month of October while the year is already planned and filled with programming that is traditional to Troy Phi.  The dynamic of the club has changed from past years, and we must be able to adapt to it.
  • Most importantly, I want to re-instill pride in being a member of Troy Phi.  Personally, I felt there was something lacking throughout the year, something intangible that was missing until it was recaptured during PACN.  There is a spirit and passion for Troy Phi that seemed to be lost amidst drama and adversity.  During these struggles as a club is when we must band together to overcome, rather than separate and fall apart.  I promise to commit all of my energy into keeping that spirit of Troy Phi alive and well for everyone to share.

Passion. Drive. Vision. The unavoidable and intimate need to grow ourselves and others. It’s what brought us to USC and what has and will continue to drive USC Troy Philippines forward under the Tenorio platform. There is no doubt that the times have changed, and in such a time it is important to bring forth a vision that ebbs and flows with the coming year and also never loses sight of the building blocks that have kept Troy Philippines so strong year in and year out.

  • Relevance: Meetings with dynamic and engaging content that works with the members to create an enjoyable atmosphere and events that strengthen our connection to the Filipino/Filipino-American community.
  • Transparency: Our club is small and tight-knit, and the relationship between e-board and the general members should be no different. I will continue to encourage the interfacing between the two to be open and approachable. No one should feel they are unable to make a suggestion or difference.
  • Growth: We rise and fall with each other. My aim is to create an environment that provides room for everyone to grow and to foster growth in others.
