Doors open at 4:30 pm, pre-show begins at 5pm, and the show starts at 5:30 pm. PACN is USC Troy Philippines’ yearly student-run culture show, expressing Filipino-American culture through music, Filipino traditional dances, and a gripping two-act play.
With a talented cast comprised of Troy Philippines’ own members, and through the support of personal and business sponsors throughout the Los Angeles area and beyond, Troy Philippines is proud to present the latest installment in its annual celebration of artistic creativity and cultural awareness.
This year’s show features dances from four traditional suites: Maria Clara, Muslim, Mountain, and Rural. These are accompanied by the two-act drama “Don’t Look Back.” Written and directed by Troy Philippines’ own Community-Culture Chair Alfred Dicioco, “Don’t Look Back” explores the struggles of personal identity and the pursuit of filling life’s internal voids.

USC TROY PHILIPPINES HOSTS 4th ANNUAL
MABUHAY FESTIVAL, THE ANNUAL BENEFIT
CONCERT FOR A PHILIPPINE CHARITY
(Los Angeles, CA--) Hundreds of young Filipino-Americans will attend the 4th Annual Mabuhay
Festival (TMF) hosted by USC Troy Philippines, Saturday, November 13 2010. Open to the
general public, TMF is USC Troy Philippines’ annual benefit concert celebrating Filipino-American
culture and social awareness of Fil-Am issues. Talented and upcoming performers, along
with innovative and entrepreneurial vendors from across the country come and support Troy
Philippines’ philanthropic cause, continuing the tradition of the four-year-old event while also
allowing it to evolve and progress as the organization grows.
"Troy Philippines is excited to continue the tradition of the Mabuhay Festival, a tradition which is
committed to celebrating cultural diversity, supporting Filipino-American artists and vendors, and
providing aid to severely underprivileged communities in the Philippines," USC Troy Philippines
President, Bruce Cabanayan.
Every fall, USC Troy Philippines hosts the Mabuhay Festival to raise funds for a charity in the
Philippines. Troy Philippines chooses a different charity organization every year to highlight
different social issues. Looking to extend a helping hand to youth in Manila, this year’s beneficiary
is WE International Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on alleviating poverty in Smokey
Mountain, a garbage dump in Manila that is home to hundreds of families and their children.
The often overlooked area of Smokey Mountain is a region of severe poverty. Adults and children
alike spend their days scavenging for recyclable items within the trash they live in. These goods
are sold to middle men and recycling factories, and most of the families have come to rely on this
as their main source of income. As a result, many families are unable to provide for the children’s
schooling costs, such as uniforms, books, food, and transportation. USC Troy Philippines is
collecting donations of school supplies to help these families alleviate costs so that the children
may attend school. Their second goal is to use the ticket proceeds as well as monetary donations
to help WE International create scholarships for the residents to attend college.
Being the only public cultural festival on the University of Southern California’s campus, it is the
largest charity event USC Troy Philippines plans, produces, and hosts. The event is made by
many sponsors, including USC’s Undergraduate Student Government (USG), Jung and Jung EA,
Harland M. Braun and Co., and more.

Spring 2010

Description
(Los Angeles, CA--) Hundreds are welcomed to attend the 18th Annual Pilipino American Culture Night by USC Troy Philippines, Saturday, April 3rd, 2010, doors open at 4pm and the show starts at 5pm. Opened to the general public and free admission, PACN is USC Troy Philippines’ yearly student-run show, consisting of Filipino traditional dances and a one-hour play, and celebrating Filipino-American culture and social awareness of Fil-Am issues.
With a talented cast and pre-show, and sponsored by innovative and entrepreneurial companies from across the country, Troy Philippines continues to mold the cultural identity of its members through the unique process of creativity and the arts.
Organized and produced by Lauren Macaraeg, who is the PACN Coordinator of Troy Philippines, written by Niall-Conor Garcia, who also wrote the music and lyrics, and directed by Andrea Santos, Troy Philippines is crafting a show entirely created by USC students. This year’s Filipino dance suites include many traditional forms, such as Muslim, Tribal, Mountain, and Rural, and the musical skit explores questions of self-identity and strange circumstances. Script writer Garcia describes his creative work, which is entitled, “One More Second… a musical,” as a play with Bildungsroman qualities.
“The life of a young white guy named John gets turned upside down when it turns out that his late mother's last wish is to have him find and meet his father - a man who, to John's surprise, happens to be Filipino,” says Garcia.
“With his mother's best friend, a self-obsessed Filipina named Angelina, John embarks on the quest to find his father in the Philippines. Receiving help from Benny, his cross-dressing cousin, and Leia, a beautiful dancer, John navigates his way through situation after awkward situation to fulfill his mother's last wish.”
Being the only Filipino-American student-run production on the University of Southern California’s campus, it is the largest cultural event USC Troy Philippines plans, produces, and hosts. Thanks to our proud sponsors, Troy Philippines is able to make the 18th Annual Pilipino American Culture Night a reality. Sponsors include CEO and President of GlobalTel Media Robert Sanchez, FilAm Nation.com, Undergraduate Student Government (USG), and the USC Asian Pacific American Student Assembly (APASA).
“We’re all very excited to carry on the tradition of producing PACN; we hope this year’s show shares with others our Filipino American culture and shows who we are as an organization,” says USC Troy Philippines Co-Public Relations Director, Melissa Sipin.
