Spyro Spyropoulos-Spears, a 5th dan black belt in Taekwondo from Greece, has been with the club since its inception in 2001. He has been practicing Taekwondo since 1988 and teaching the art since 1992. His experience and knowledge of Taekwondo, his dedication to the sport, his familiarity with other martial arts (e.g. Aikido and Hapkido), and, most importantly, his constant efforts to make the USC Taekwondo team one of the best constitute the foundation of the club.

In addition to being one of the founders of USC Taekwondo, Coach Spyro is one of the current head instructors, providing guidance to other class instructors. He is also a certified referee of the Hellenic Taekwondo Union, USA Taekwondo (USAT), and the Pac-West Collegiate Taekwondo Conference.

Coach Spyro graduated with a Masters in Computer Science from the USC School of Engineering in 2003.
