Introduction

USC TOP, or USC Taekwondo Outreach Program, is an initiative by the USC Taekwondo Club Sport Program to outreach to the children of the neighborhood surrouding USC Campus.

Through offering Taekwondo lessons to afterschool programs at participating elementary schools, the men and women of USC TKD hope to promote the martial art, and inspire young children to thrive as strong, disciplined, and learned individuals.

There are 2 phases to the program:

1. Phase 1: Outreaching and Teaching, Srping 2006 - we will be partnering with USC After School Sports Connection (USC ASSC) to provide free Taekwondo lessons to membership schools. There are 8 elementary schools participating with ASSC, several of which have expressed an interest in martial art lessons. At the end of this phase, this partnership will be fully fostered, and the 8-week lesson programs will be completed.

2. Phase 2: Mentoring & Competition - each USC TKD tournament team member is expected to take part of this program as an instructor (phase 1), and mentor (phase 2), or both. The mentoring prgram details are yet to be finalized. The Summer Competition will be an open & friendly Taekwondo Tournament for kids from participating USC TOP schools (and beyond) to showcase what they have learned and meet one another.
