Back to top Joining the Club 1.1   How do I sign up for the club? You can sign up by going to the USC Lyon Center or going online to fill out the membership form and pay the membership fee. Be sure to keep your receipt and show it to a club officer. 1.2   How much does it cost to join the club? Fees are currently $65 per semester, subject to change. Please check online with USC Recreational Sports. 1.3   Can non-USC students join the club? In order to become a USC Taekwondo member, you have to be a member with USC Recreational Sports at the Lyon Center. USC students, staff, alumni, and others affiliated with USC in some way are eligible to become members of USC Recreational Sports. Non-USC students should contact the USC Recreational Sports at recsports@usc.edu for more information on eligibitity and enrollment in USC Taekwondo. 1.4   I already have some Taekwondo (or other martial art) experience, can I join the club? All martial artists are welcome to join our club. You may also keep your club uniform and rank, but, if you want to follow the USC Taekwondo belt system, you will have to learn the USC Taekwondo material and test for equivalence. Back to top Uniforms and Equipment 2.1   Can I wear my old uniform and belt to class? Yes. Please keep them, wear them, and respect your old dobok and belt. Even if you purchase your own USC Taekwondo uniform, we encourage you to keep wearing your old belt until you are promoted or the belt breaks. 2.2   How do I order new uniform and equipment? Come see one of our officers, preferably during the first few weeks of class. Fill out an order form and make out a check payable to USC Taekwondo. Uniforms should take about 1 week to order. It will take longer if you order after the first few weeks of class. 2.3   My new uniform doesn't fit, can I exchange it? Yes, if you have not washed it or dirtied it yet. Try it on, and, if it doesn't fit, please return it to an officer right away. 2.4   How do you tie the belt? Please have one of the black belts show you the first time. It is actually a tradition to have a senior belt tie it one for you the first time. 2.5   Do I get discounted prices? Yes, you get wholesale prices from our official martial art supply store, which is very cheap compared to other places. 2.6   Can I get a USC Taekwondo T-shirt? Yes, please indicate on the uniform and equipment order form. It's only $10. 100% of all sales will go back into our USC Taekwondo account. 2.7   How come some of the members get to wear a different T-shirt? The T-shirts were probably purchased in a different year or received from a particular event. 2.8   Can I still spar without gear? Yes, but non-contact sparring only. We have some gear you can borrow, but supplies are limited and not all required gear may be available. Full-gear is required for full-contact sparring. No exceptions will be made. 2.9   Can I just go and buy uniforms and equipment myself? Yes, but you won't get the USC Taekwondo seal on your uniform, plus you will have to pay the retail price. Back to top General Questions 3.1   I'm a white belt, can I spar? White belts may come to sparring classes after they have learned the basic techniques and received permission from a coach. 3.2   Why do white belts spar with black belts, isn't this dangerous? This is a common practice and done mainly for saftey reasons. Black belts are more experienced and have more control, so they can help beginners learn without getting injured. 3.3   Can I come to class late? Try to be on time for class, but, if you arrive late, walk in quietly, do 15 push-ups, and join the back of the class. 3.4   Can I leave class early? If you want to leave early, please inform the instructor at the beginning of class.
