The USC Joint Educational Project is seeking a graduate or advanced undergraduate student to assist staff with activities and events related to the implementation of the Community Based Learning Collaborative (CBLC). Responsibilities will include assistance with event planning and coordination, database management, web site updates, and other related communication activities. Interns are expected to be well-organized and work well both independently and as part of a team. This is a part-time position with a work schedule of 20 hours per week. Work-study eligibility is preferred, but not required. Interns will gain experience in building a university- and community-wide organization that addresses the university's goal of meeting societal needs.  The interns will have the opportunity to meet and network with faculty, staff, and community-based organizations.

The Community Based Learning Collaborative (CBLC) was initiated in 2003 when staff, students and faculty from a number of USC schools and departments came together with area community-based organizations to discuss how to build a university-wide support structure for experiential learning opportunities at USC.

The CBLC serves as a resource center and coordination point for student-centered experiential learning and promotes community based learning as an integral part of education. The CBLC seeks to increase awareness among students, faculty, and community members about opportunities for civic engagement and facilitates the development of innovative and interdisciplinary community-based learning projects. Specifically, the CBLC seeks to build bridges between the university and the larger community, creating opportunities for an engaged and ethically responsible citizenry.

Students interested in interning with the CBLC should email a brief letter of interest and resume to: Susan Harris, JEP's Associate Director of Research and Academic Affairs and Executive Board member for the CBLC (scharris@usc.edu). In order to be considered for the position, please submit all materials no later than Friday, September 5, 2008.

For additional information about the CBLC or the position, please contact Susan Harris at 213-740-1830 or scharris@usc.edu, or Sharon Stewart, the Co-Chair of the CBLC, at 213-743-5264, sstewart@usc.edu.

Good Afternoon,

I am from the Children Youth and Family Collaborative. We are a non-profit that operates 25 school sites in LA and Compton. We have a fantsatic AmeriCorps scholarship opportunity that we would like to extend to your students. We are looking for graduate students who would like a par-time job/ workstudy job as tutors. We pay our tutors anywhere from $11-15 an hour. They have to make a commitment of at least 13-15 hours a week for 300 hours and upon completion will receive (as a bonus) a $1000 Education Award from AmeriCorps.

We have had a couple of graduate students apply for these positions already and are looking to fill more. If you could pass this information on to students in your class that would be greatly appreciated! I have taken the liberty to include a flyer with this email. Thank you so much!
