Date Auction: Rules & FAQ

By attending this date auction, you agree to abide by the following rules:

Procedures

  1. All who intend to bid on any person must register with the cashier.
  2. Upon registration, the bidder will be assigned a numbered plate to use at the auction.
  3. The minimum bid is $20.
  4. Bids will be made by holding up the numbered plate. Only bids announced by the auctioneer will be counted.
  5. Bids will be accepted by the auctioneer until such a time comes that no higher bids may be achieved.
  6. Bid amount will increment in any dollar amount. (E.g. No $13.76 bids.)
  7. All students (non-engineers included) may only bid on a person who is up for auction.
  8. Students must bring student ID and present student ID to the cashier when registering.
  9. High bidders will be notified of their win by the auctioneer and should then proceed to the cashier desk to sign a contract and pay the amount owed.
  10. Payment must be received immediately upon completion of the bidding section.
  11. Only cash and checks will be accepted. A $25 fee will be imposed for all bounced checks. Checks should be addressed to "SWE-USC."
  12. Retractions must be announced before the auction for a particular date is closed.

Entitlements, Benefits, Expectations

  1. This is not to be constructed in any way, shape, or form as a guarantee for any "services" given by the auctioned participant to the high bidder.
  2. The high bidder, upon payment, will be entitled to being the auctionee's date to the Viterbi Engineering Ball.
  3. there will be no refunds in the event of acts of God, dud dates, or dates that are called off.

Disclaimers

  1. Neither the University of Southern California, nor the Viterbi School of Engineering, nor the Society of Women Engineering, nor the Viterbi Student Council are responsible for what occurs after the auction.
  2. These guidelines are subject to change at the discretion of the Society of Women Engineering, USC, and its officers.

Q: If i am in the auction, can I still bid on someone?
A: Yes you may!

Q: Can a non-engineer apply to be in the date auction?
A: The dates we are auctioning are engineering students but everyone is welcome to bid on them.
