Accounting
Responsible for obtaining the bank deposit key and then counting money turned in on Bank Night, the day of the event, and the day following event. Make sure event information is entered in ACS computer system to capture participant information and tabulate fundraising totals by individual.
Advocacy
The advocacy committee is responsible for being familiar with American Cancer Society legislative priorities and working with the chapter to implement advocacy plans and projects for the campus community. As a member of the advocacy team you should be comfortable writing letters, making phone calls, approaching legislative officials to ask for support. Students in political science majors or anyone interested in policy-making (especially within the health field) are encouraged to apply for the Advocacy Committee.
Cancer Ed
Responsible for recognizing the unique cancer education needs of the college campus. The committee is responsible for planning one (1) educational activity per month (related to that month's designated type of cancer) with the help from the CAC general body. Events include: The Great American Smokeout, Breast Cancer Awareness, Skin Cancer Awareness. As part of Relay For Life, the committee must create and produce "Relay Olympics," the games and activities at Relay to educate and inform participants about cancer prevention and detection. In general the committee's job is to work with entertainment to keep participants entertained, and by doing so educated.
Ceremonies
Responsible for planning the three ceremonies at Relay: Opening, Luminaria, and Closing/Fight Back. This involves writing speeches for the ceremonies (can find these online) and recruiting powerful speakers (i.e. Survivors/caregivers). For Luminaria Ceremony, this committee is responsible for creating a slideshow to honor cancer victims and coordinate the purchase and set-up of luminaria bags.
Corporate Sponsorship
In charge of finding sponsorships from companies and individuals for Relay. Keep track of all donations given to the event. Will need to coordinate with Food committee.
Entertainment
Responsible for scheduling entertainment at the event. This involves recruiting bands, DJs, student groups (Improv, a capella, etc), dance groups, and other fun things. Coordinate with Cancer Education for games, activities, and theme laps. Also work with logistics to obtain and setting up a sound system.
Food
In charge of obtaining and coordinating all of the food and drinks at Relay. This involves contacting food and drink companies for donations to the event and organizing the delivery/pick-up of these items.
Fundraising
Works with club and teams to encourage fundraising for the event. Plan fundraisers throughout the year (i.e. carwashes, selling cookies, dodgeball tournament, percentage nights at restaurants) to help raise money. Help teams come up with fundraising ideas and serve as a mentor for teams who need fundraising guidance
Logistics
Works with university and CAC to secure the Relay For Life venue, fire permits, security, stage, sound, tables/chairs, and funding for all event-related costs. This involves working with RecSports to rent the track, DPS for security, FMS for trash pick-up and electrical requests, and all other companies for equipment rental (chairs, tables, sound, etc.). This position is crucial to the event and will be helpful knowledge if interested in a chair position in the future.
Online
Maintaining and updating the Relay website. Initial training is required. Monitor and pull reports from the website. Work with Chairs and Team Captain coordinator to send group emails through the system. Upload sponsor logos as needed to the system. Help teams & individuals set up their webpage.
Pantene
The Pantene Beautiful Lengths Chair is responsible for coordination, promotion and planning of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Cut-A-Thon, held at the USC Relay for Life. The Pantene Chair responsibilities include: Planning a Kic- Off Event with Cancer Education, recruitment of participants throughout the year, coordination with Logistics Committee to ensure space is available at event, planning for day of event like coordinating with local stylists to have 5-7 hair stylists on Saturday afternoon at Relay.
Publicity
Responsible for advertising all CAC events including Relay For Life. Advertising include creating fliers to post around campus and handout while tabling, creating banners for advertisement, securing banner/advertising space around campus through the Scheduling Office and Facilities, and organizing publicity through social media sources. The committee is also responsible for planning and executing 'Paint the Campus Purple' and decorating the track/stadium for Relay For Life.Creativity, interest in fliers/graphic design, etc is strongly encouraged.
Registration
Register teams at bank night and the event, create folders to record each team's fundraising, create signage for registration area and ensure the registration area is running smoothly.
Secretary
The Secretary is part of the leadership committee and is responsible for taking meeting minutes during weekly CAC meetings and officer meetings. After each general body meeting the secretary will send out email updates to remind everyone what was discussed at the meetings.
Survivorship
The Survivorship committee is responsible for locating survivors. In doing so, they will be able to provide opportunities for survivors and those affected by cancer to be honored, remembered, and to share experiences that will help them to further cope and celebrate life. The committee is encouraged to coordinate events for survivors and facilitate the club's support/interaction with them. Past events include: children's hospital visits to deliver books for the holidays, support group visits, baking treats for survivors, sending cards, and a Suvrivors Brunch. In addition, the committee is responsible for Survivors at Relay For Life by creating a well organized survivor lap to set the mood for the entire event, creating a survivors' tent, having special activities for survivors and their loved ones.
Team Recruitment
Responsible for finding team captains and helping them organize a team. Visit different clubs and organizations to recruit new teams and participants. Must be in constant communication with team captains and plan Team Captain Meetings. Team Recruitment chair must work with the committee to establish and maintain a virtual Team Recruitment Plan and create a mentoring system between the committee members and their assigned team captains. The Team Recruitment committee is the direct link between the participants and the planning committee and must be willing to field questions regarding the event.
