Throughout the year we host a number of events to promote cancer awareness as well as advocate for cancer prevention. We also do our best to raise money for our cause.
Skin Cancer Awareness Month
September is Skin Cancer Awareness Month! When you're having fun outdoors, it's easy to forget how important it is to protect yourself from the sun. Unprotected skin can be damaged by the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays in as little as 15 minutes. Make sure the sport that visor and lather on that sunscreen when out and about. In order to promote awareness and help our fellow Trojans we will be passing out sunscreen around campus and at football games. Be sure to check out other ways to prevent skin cancer to stay safe in that sun!
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Today about 1 in every 8 women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime making it the second leading cause of cancer death in women. That's why we need to increase awareness and promote yearly mammogram check-ups. We will hold BOOBAPALOOZA where we will be tabling and fundraising for several days throughout the month to make sure people get the facts but also have fun learning them through different activities and games. Gentlemen, you can even become a Certified Breast Inspector!
Great American Smokeout
In November we launch our Great American Smokeout where we encourage smokers to quit. By doing so they will take a step towards a healthier life -- one that can lead to reducing cancer risk! Of course the famous Ciggy Butts will make an appearance during our tabling where will have some games and trivia to share with students.
In March, we host a brunch for survivors to honor and celebrate them. It is a great way for us to get to know our survivors over great food, good music, and a fun atmosphere. If you or someone you know is interested in attending this brunch please email us.
