Sushil Subramanian – About MeMy home is in Bangalore, a vibrant city in the heart of South India where I have stayed for 15 years now. I am originally from Tamil Nadu, the land of temples and various kinds of pongal. Exploration and discovery are my way of life. However, blessed or cursed that I am, I have an overwhelming desire to cause change. Like many others, I felt a PhD. in engineering is a first step towards achieving that goal! I love music, and I play the piano and the B-Flat trumpet. Although I consider myself to be primarily a Carnatic classical vocalist (having learnt it since early childhood), school and college have diversified my knowledge, appreciation and skills in everything from Renaissance music to heavy metal. I am a badminton enthusiast. To me, it is the ultimate form of exercise, competition and fun, and I have been playing the game regularly for many years. I had previously practiced Kyokushin Karate regularly for 7 years. Quizzing is also an integral part of my life. This means that I am geek who loves to assimilate facts for the sake of it. I have represented IIT Kharagpur in many quizzes and I advocate Wikipedia as a default search engine! I am a proud resident of Lala Lajpat Rai Hall in IIT Kharagpur, often sharing many exciting moments with my wing mates and the inter hall teams I am part of. I was Best Fresher and Best Lajpatian of the class of 2009! I was also especially active in the music, hobbyist robotics, quizzing and badminton societies and teams at IIT Kharagpur. Excluding India and airports, I have been to the following countries, in chronological order: Malaysia (2004), Singapore (2004), Kenya (2005), UAE (2005), Mauritius (2006), USA (2008, 2010, 2011), Japan (2008), Hungary (2009), Cambodia (2011), Thailand (2011). I usually consume massive amounts of this and I promote it as the best invention of South India. “My definition of success is quite simple: it's not about wealth and fame and power, it's about how many shining eyes I have around me.”
“I have a little secret for ya. Huddle up. Huddle up! … We don't read and write poetry because it's cute.
We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion.
Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are all noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life.
But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
