Comments by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa suggest that Los Angeles Fire Chief William Bamattre's career may be coming to an end. Bamattre and the department are being accused of racial discrimination. After a long closed session discussion with city attorneys, only six of the 15 Los Angeles council members voted against Villaraigosa's veto of the settlement deal.
