Program notes:

I have always had something of a fascination with the culture of the American West during the first half of the 20th Century. A recent visit to the Knight Foundry, an historic water-powered foundry and machine shop in Sutter Creek, California, reminded me of the physical prowess and emotional grit so prevalent in these earlier generations. Much like the tools
and innovations during this time, the music of Foundry is often rugged, rough-edged, and motoric. A more contemplative texture combines with all this to reflect a nostalgia for the unique spirit of this region, one which has perhaps been
lost in our own technological advances.
