Project Proposal

All students in ISE 232 had to choose a course project with the intend of gain a deeper understanding in one of the many areas concerning digital fabrication.

Issue Statement:

We want to further understand the technology that is involved in nanofanrication. Also we want to try to look into the possibilities that nanofabrication holds for the future. Is nanofabrication the future? Or are the obstacles too great and other methods better?

Reasons:

We think that nanofabrication is the future of digital manufacturing. The demands to even simple products will be far greater in the future and we thus think that one must some time in the future build a product molecule by molecule in order to meet the new standards.

Procedure:

Many universities have good research in this particular field (including Caltech) and we might be able to interview leading scientists.

We will be researching the current scientific state of nanofabrication with the Internet as our primary source. Sites such as http://www.cnf.cornell.edu/ and http://www.nanofabrication.northwestern.edu/

Other sources include books, news articles, magazines etc.

We would in addition (if possible) visit factories and interview experts.

Qualifications:

We have a personal interest in the subject.

Deliverables:

We are not yet certain how we can illustrate the completion of a research project like this, but we think that it will come to us as our knowledge on the subject increases.
