You are invited to attend a Thums Drilling Rig Tour on Saturday October 15, 2005. This is a field trip for the Petroleum Engineering 514 course, and all students are welcome to attend.The tour will leave at 8:45 from USC and return to campus by 12 pm, in time to watch the USC-Notre Dame football game!

Western US Regional Paper Contest

The 2005 (US) Western Regional SPE Student contest was conducted on Wednesday 30 March at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, California. The participants included, one in the BS division, six in the MS division and five in the PhD category. Eight judges helped with the conduct of the meeting. University of Southern California Student Chapter, under Dr. Iraj Ershaghi, faculty advisor, served as host for the event. The industry coordinator and fund raiser was Scott Hara.

The winners in the MS division were Ehsan Tajer, University of Southern California, first; Elizabeth Spiteri, Stanford University, second; and Sudiptya Banerjee, University of Alaska - Fairbanks, third/ In the PhD division, the winners were Mun-Hong Hui, Stanford University, first; Mr. Kris Zancy, U C Berekely, second; and Jie Zeng, University of Southern California, third.

Eve Sprunt, 2006 SPE President, Joyce Holtzclaw, General Chairperson of the Western Regional Meeting, and Dr. Behrooz Fattahi, SPE Western North America Regional Director, each spoke to the contestants and commended them for their efforts.
