Future Projects
Second Life offers users a variety of options when it comes to customizing their avatar. Unfortunately, users cannot preview outfits, hair styles, and accessories until after they are purchased and applied to the avatar. The Fashion Mannequin and Interactive Fitting Room offers an innovative solution that allows users to finally “try on” items before purchasing them. SLSDG has had the opportunity to participate in and collaborate with several of the USC Marshall School of Business’ Second Life initiatives. Check out the Learning Lounge on Marshall Island – a store designed and managed by SLSDG in which you can view and even buy some of our innovative products. SLSDG is planning on helping the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles introduce their new hospital floor to doctors, staff, and patients by building a virtual model of the area in Second Life. By exploring the floor in Second Life, users will be able to quickly familiarize themselves with the new area so that they can spend less time getting lost and more time saving lives once it opens. SLSDG is presently working with the USC Keck School of Medicine to provide students with additional practice in interviewing patients. Within Second Life, students will be able to interact with virtual patients and, by asking the right questions, work toward correctly diagnosing them and learning how to avoid the common medical errors that are traditionally made in doing so. Completed Projects
A contest in which participants must create the one object that will save the world. This object can be organic, mechanical, interactive, large, small, realistic, unearthly, have multiple moving parts, be simple and streamlined... and everything outside and in-between. The most important thing is to think about what is the one thing you would create for the real world (if given infinite resources) that would bring the environment back into harmony. We will be looking for overall creativity, logic of concept, and the quality of execution. Click here for more details! The School of Public Policy and Development has partnered with SLSDG to create an interactive and explorable replica of Costa Rica's Jaco Beach. Within this virtual replica, SPPD students will be able to asses the current state of the location and investigate ways to improve the area, establish eco-tourism, and prepare the community for the potential ramifications of global warming. The student's recommendations and proposed changes to Jaco Beach will also be reflected in the Second Life - allowing viewers to toggle between the community's current state and modified state.
