The USC Sirens were formed in October of 1997 by Brock Harris. Connie Chung (President 1997-1998) is credited with naming the Sirens. In Greek and Roman mythology, mythical creatures called Sirens used their voices to lure sailors to their deaths. When you come to our shows, refrain from bringing wax for your ears or twine to tie yourself to the mast.

Our first year was very busy: from performing at SCAM Fest to the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. Since then, the Sirens have hosted TONS of groups: Tuft's Beelzebubs, Duke's Men of Yale, Yale Alley Cats, Stanford Mendicants, Counterpoint and Fleetstreet, Brandeis Voicemale, Boston University Dear Abbeys, Harvard Krokodiloes, Berkeley Artists in Resonance, MIT Logarhythms, The Brown Derbies, the Brown Bear Necessities, and many more. In 2005, we advanced to the semi-final round of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella.

We have recorded five albums since our beginning, Voicebox (1997-98), Surreal (1999), Nectar and Ambrosia (2001-2002), Tied to the Mast (2003) and Big Ugly Birds (2004-05).

Our first tour was back east to dabble and schmooze with the wonderful groups who hosted us- they showed us quite the good time: we even had time to run around to all the tourist attractions! We also toured Hawaii in 2001, running around the island of Oahu, under the careful eye of our native Hawaiian Siren, Tiffany Shinn. It was an amazing experience, and we had the opportunity to enjoy all of Hawaii's treasures WHILE we sang our lungs out. It was awesome. 2004 brought our second Northeast tour: we sang in Boston, Wenham, New York City, Haverford and Philadelphia. It took all of our spring break to visit so many schools and groups that wanted to sing with us, and it was worth every second in the cold and snow!

The Sirens have been hired for many random and entertaining venues, including the Popovich Dedication Ceremony, President Sample's private Homecoming party, singing the national anthem at an L.A. Kings and the USC hockey games; not to mention our occasional romps at the Third Street Promenade!

We are proud to have tracks on every Best Of College A cappella CD from 2000 to 2006, as well as stellar Recorded A cappella Review Board reviews written about Surreal, Nectar and Ambrosia, Tied to the Mast, AND Big Ugly Birds. We are also very proud of our numerous CARA awards- check out the music page for all the award details.

Most of all, we are proud to have created such a cohesive and industrious group in the Sirens. At the beginning of every academic year we lay out our goals to be achieved by next May, and every year we achieve those goals and then some. We are so proud of where we've been and where we're going, and we can't wait to see what the years ahead will bring to the USC Sirens.

What are people saying about the Sirens?

"It's just some of the best female beats you're likely to hear anywhere. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Treble pop/rock groups, this is what you're trying to do." --Hannah Stotland

"It's clear they take their recording work more seriously than the vast majority of other collegiate a cappella groups. Once again, and this is a rarity in collegiate a cappella, every soloist is strong." --Erik Skalinder

"The Sirens continue to shatter the limitations of recorded women's a cappella. I'd gladly be hurled overboard to hear these ladies sing." --Joshua Diamant
