Gloria Kim has been feeding the homeless in Los Angeles for over 20 years. She started distributing food out of a garage with her late mother back in 1986, but even before that she had been known to open her home to whoever needed a place to stay. Attributing her compassion for the poor and the weak to her Christian faith, Kim has since been providing food, clothing, prayers and sometimes 24-hour care.
Controversial Los Angeles ordinance banning homeless from sleeping, sitting or lying on sidewalks has left many homeless with the tiring task of wandering the streets in search of a place safe from police. The constantly moving homeless are also hard for Gloria Kim, who helps feed the homeless, to pin down.
Food stores, produce wholesalers and clothing superstores have all pitched in to support Gloria Kim's mission to help the homeless.
An article in the Los Angeles Times sparked interest in the 66-year-old woman's selfless fight to care for as many homeless people as she can. Since then, Kim has received several offers from people inspired to help.
