PRESIDENT


Constitutional Description:

  • The President will be the official representative of the Association. The President will be ultimately responsible for preparing agendas for all Executive Board and general S.G.A. meetings. The President will chair all general S.G.A. and Executive Board meetings. The President will be empowered to authorize or reject any and all S.G.A. expenditures. The President may appoint and oversee a Student Relations committee chairman.

Professional/Personal Attributes necessary for the position: 

  • Outgoing, detail-oriented, comfortable with multi-tasking, and good with delegation and communication.

School/Work Schedule needed for the position:  

  • The President must be on campus and available regularly!
    • Ave # of hours spent per week:  10
    • In the Fall:     10-15
    • In the Spring:    10-15

Responsible for: 

   All the time:

  • SGA Monthly Meetings
    • Schedule monthly SGA cabinet and student body meetings
    • Coordinate with Secretary and School’s administrative staff to make sure that the meetings are advertised (and that the smart classroom is avail.)
    • Coordinate food delivery (work with Linda Broder to order food and the treasurer for finances)
  • President’s Messages in the Newsletter and working with the Newsletter Editor to design each issue.
    • Write Message from the President
    • Also coordinate with the webmaster to make sure that the Center’s web page is up-dated with ALL SGA events
  • Fundraising:
    • Maintain continued communication for up-dates on orders, deliveries, etc…
    • Coordinate with the treasurer regarding the finances of such endeavors
    • Help sell items
  • Daily communication with officers and students (via the list serve)
  • Assist in organizing educational, philanthropic, and social activities

   Fall:

  • SGA Officer Meeting – Master Calendar creation
  • Welcome Luncheon for new students
  • Meet with the Andrus Volunteers at the beginning of the semester to coordinate dual meetings
  • Meet with the Dean to develop/coordinate events for the year
  • Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk
    • Coordinate with VPs to make sure that all students are involved
    • Work with the VP: Masters to document all fundraising efforts for the event
    • Work with Michael Adkins of the Alzheimer Disease Research Center (Team Captain) for registration, signs, and table design.
  • Dean’s Luncheon (Support role)
    • Coordinate with the Social Chair and the Dean
  • Involvement Fair (Support role)
    • Coordinate with VP: Undergraduate
  • Year Book Picture (Support role)
    • Coordinate with VP: Undergraduate
  • Speak at Scholarship Luncheon
  • GSA Conference (Support role)
    • Coordinate with GSA Representative
  • Attend GPSS Meetings that relate to Alumni Dinner Financing
    • Coordinate with GPSS Representative for such attendance, etc…
    • May have to speak on SGAs behalf for funding
  • Alumni Dinner (Support role)
    • Work with the Alumni Chair(s) to develop the event
    • Member of the team that elects the Alumni of the Year
    • Work with the Secretary and the Social chair to help advertise the event
    • Work with the VPs to ensure that all students know about the event
  • Coordinate Fall Sigma Phi Omega event (gero honor society) – IF YOU ARE A MEMBER OF SIGMA PHI OMEGA AND THE SGA PRESIDENT, YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY THE SIGMA PHI OMEGA PRESIDENT

Spring:

  • SGA Officer Meeting – Master Calendar creation (Lead role)
  • Meet with the Andrus Volunteers at the beginning of the semester to coordinate dual meetings
  • Relay For Life Philanthropy
  • ASA Conference
    • Promote at SGA meetings
  • Alumni Dinner
    • Continue to coordinate with the all other position to support the event
    • Attend GPSS Meetings that relate to Alumni Dinner Financing
  • Coordinate Spring Sigma Phi Omega events
    • Advertise and recruit new members
    • Conduct the induction ceremony
  • Elections
    • Coordinate with all officers to up-date binders and position descriptions
    • Coordinate with the Secretary and School Admin. Staff to advertise
    • Conduct elections
    • Assist in getting the old and new officers to complete transitions
    • Meet with the new President
  • Graduation
    • Speech
