Professional/Personal Attributes necessary for the position:

The Newsletter Editor must have good editing and writing ability. In addition, he/she should have organizational and communicational skills in order to make gathering articles and compiling them possible. Technical skill with word and photo-editing are mandatory.

School/Work Schedule needed for the position:

The Newsletter Editor should be prepared to give approximately 2 to 3 hours a week to gathering news articles. On weeks before the due date of a newsletter, the editor must be able to spend at least between 5 and 6 hours on the newsletter. Attendance of meetings is mandatory to head a newsletter committee of SGA members who volunteer to assist with writing articles and compiling the newsletter.

Assist in as many events as possible, which include but are not limited to the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk and the Alumni Dinner

Position Description:

The Newsletter Editor is in charge of compiling and publishing a biannual newsletter. This includes assigning writers to articles, writing articles, constructing the newsletter, and proofing all articles.

  • Spring semester is generally a busier semester than Fall semester. The Alumni Dinner, which is arguably SGA’s biggest signature event, occurs in the Spring and thus, all officers must put in a bigger time commitment.

What other position(s) does the Newsletter Editor work with the most, and why?

Newsletter Editor works most with the Secretary and Communications Committee Chair, as well as the President. The President is the best source of information about the events and activities that are planned over the course of the year. The Secretary and Communications Committee Chair are the most knowledgeable about what kind of information should be available to students and what the content of the newsletter should be.
