Welcome to all continuing and new students to SGA 2008-2009! We have many events planned for this upcoming year that I hope to see many (if not all!) of you attend.
The Student Gerontology Association (SGA) of the Davis School of Gerontology is an organization for undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students that pursues educational, philanthropic and social activities throughout the year. We are a group of students committed to the promotion of gerontological issues on campus and in the community. We realize that undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. programs are challenging and time consuming, but we encourage students to reach out to the community and develop friendships in the program that will last a lifetime. Our main events this year include the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk, Fall Prevention Awareness Week, lunch with the Andrus Volunteers, our Annual Student and Alumni Dinner, and a Gerontology Awareness Week.
I would encourage all gerontology students to become members of SGA, as it is a wonderful opportunity to meet people with similar interests, and become involved with activities related to gerontology. I know that some of you may be worried about having enough time to participate in SGA; however your level of involvement depends only on your availability; you can spend as much or as little time participating as you wish. New students are especially encouraged to join SGA, as it is a great way to meet people and make friends.
I look forward to meeting you all at this year’s many events!
Good luck and welcome to SGA! Fight on!!
