Practices
A Typical Day...
A typical practice day would go something like this (estimated duration times are in italics):
- Meet at Trojan Grounds for carpool (0:15)
- Carpool to Practice Site (Long Beach) (0:30 - 0:45)
- Stretches, warm-ups, exercises (0:20 - 0:40)
- In-the-water practice (1:00 - 2:00)
- Clean the boat, stretch down (0:10 - 0:20)
- Lunch!, return to campus
For the Fall 2008 semester we will be having practices on SUNDAYS. We meet at Trojan Grounds at 9:30 AM for carpools.
Prepare
This is a water sport; you WILL get wet. Here's a list of our recommendations:
- Wear shorts and a t-shirt to paddle in. We frequently paddle in our swim bottoms; girls are also free to wear bikini tops under their shirts.
- Bring an extra set of clothes. I'm talkin extra clothes down to underwear.
- Don't forget a towel to dry yourself off afterwards.
- Bring water or a sports drink; make sure to keep hydrated.
- Bring money in case you join us for lunch afterwards.
Location
We practice at Mother's Beach (5839 Appian Way) in Long Beach, California.

- From USC/downtown:
- 110 South
- 405 South
- 22 West
- Exit Studebaker -- turn LEFT
- Turn RIGHT on 2nd
- RIGHT on the bridge's descent onto Appian Way
- LEFT on Appian Way; the practice site is on your right.
- From San Gabriel Valley:
- 605 South
- 22 West
- Exit Studebaker -- turn LEFT
- Turn RIGHT on 2nd
- RIGHT on the bridge's descent onto Appian Way
- LEFT on Appian Way; the practice site is on your right.
Parking
We are instructed to park in the lot on Appian Way. Instead of turning left on Appian Way, turn RIGHT. The parking lot will be on your left.
Land Workouts
Co-Captain Brian Nguyen hosts weekly on-land exercises to help the team gain strength needed for paddling. Show up at the indicated location; no RSVP required.
Schedule:
- Monday, 6:00 PM - Track: Aerobic
- Wednesday, 7:30am - Lyon Center: Anaerobic
