_________________________________________ News Long Beach Dragon Boat Tournament April 22, 2007
Trojans, what is your profession!?!? Hungry for more, we competed at the annual Long Beach Tournament in our own backyard pool. With a strong mix of dedicated members from veterans to first year paddlers, USC demonstrated to everyone that we were mentally ready to race with the best. The times were irrelevant due to weather and boat conditions, and we were unable to reach the Finals. Despite the struggles due to a one-boat crew, the team remained competitive and united throughout the day. Congrats to UCSD for another terrific tournament run. Our exec members, including those recently elected, stepped up to the plate and really helped us get through the tournament. Thanks to all the Trojans and coaches for your commitment to a growing sport. The future is bright for our members and anyone else who would like to join; we hope to continue our progress to the top with this resilient, dedicated, and loving Trojan family. Fight On!. Arizona Dragonboat Festival March 24-25, 2007
Heading into our second year at the Arizona Dragonboat Festival,
both old and new members looked forward to an exciting tournament. Although it was the first race
experience for most of the crew, everyone competed very well and had a great time in Arizona. We
trained really hard with double practices coupled with weekly workouts, so everyone was physically
ready. From the onset, we annihilated our time from last year by half a minute with 2:22.63 in the
500m to start the weekend. Following a hard-earned 2:23.93 in the second 500m, the team came back
strong to capture a 3rd place finish (2nd among colleges) in the 250m sprint with a time of 1:08.74
– just 1.5 seconds from the winning time. The following day, with USC categorized under Division B,
we raced hard in the qualifying heat for the Finals. Unfortunately, SC was less than a second away
from securing the last spot. We did, however, capture a 2nd place finish in the collegiate 500m with
another 2:23.00 performance and raced strong for 3rd place in the Division B Consolation Heat, our
last race of the weekend. Overall, USC competed very well against some regional teams and demonstrated
true class in doing so, especially indicated by our illustrious "Puppy Dumping." The final highlight
came from our performance at the annual cheer competition, which symbolized our weekend transformation
from a USC team to a Trojan Family. Click here for past news items. |
