Dedeaux Field,
namesake of one of the most successful coaches in NCAA history, Rob
Dedeaux, is itself an unofficial historic landmark at USC. One opening
day 1974, right-hander Russ McQueen threw a no-hitter in the first game
ever played at the facility, as USC swept a doubleheader from
California. That year, USC won an unprecedented 5 straight national
championships. Dedeaux Field seats more than 2,500 spectators and
features a natural grass field, 10-foot outfield fences, a spacious
press box, a state-of-the-art scoreboard/messaging center and lighting
comparable to most professional baseball facilities. Scenes from "A
League of Their Own" were shot at USC's Dedeaux Field, as were scenes
from Kevin Costner's baseball movie, "For Love of the Game" and Tom
Selleck's "Mr. Baseball."
