SUPPORT THE SUPERMARKET STRIKE

(alternative shopping site)

Okay folks, here's the deal: All across LA and right near USC, supermarket workers from Vons, Ralphs, Pavillion and Albertsons are on strike (technically only Vons employees are striking, the others have been locked out by the companies). They're on strike because the companies they work for want to cut their healthcare coverage for them and their families, so that profits can remain high. They've been brave enough to put their livelihoods on the line to stand up for what they know is right not only for themselves but all of their fellow workers.

We students want to stand in solidarity with the amazing people who make our world go around, so as part of that effort we're organizing "alternative shopping carpools" to get students out to shop at more socially responsible (all though far from perfect) establishemnts. This way, we can still eat and won't be undermining the struggle. Here's how it works: below is a table of names, markets, times and other information. If you get that itch to shop for food, but don't have transportation (or just want a short roadtrip with cool folks)- find someone going somewhere you want to go at a time that works for you and get in touch with them to reserve a space. Simple, no?

32nd Street Market (not ideal for carnivores or vegitarians, but the price is usually right)

Farmers Markets- Wed. Afternoon there is one just west of Vermont on Adams- just a tram ride/walk away from SC
