High-class Shoppers
7/5

Saturday morning was a sleep in morning. It felt great to leave the alarm untouched and get a full night’s rest. Especially since I started feeling a little cold coming on. But I did my best to fight it off by getting my rest. Around 11, Ben, Jessica and I took the metro to the Spanish steps to do a little shopping. I picked up a little gift for Janie from Prada, which was definitely a first for me. They were very helpful and nice, even though I wasn’t sure if I would make it past the doorman. This street, which I forget the name of, is essentially the Rodeo Drive of Rome. Chronologically, I realize that is probably backwards, but it’s the way my mind best understands it. Anyways, after my Prada purchase I felt a little more welcome on the street and we strolled by Bulgari, Gucci, Armani, Louis Vuitton, Rolex, and many other designer stores. Ben, who apparently has aspirations to work for GQ in the future, I think enjoyed it the most. But we didn’t actually go into anymore stores. We did eventually find a Ferrari store, however, which was pretty cool. Everything was ridiculously expensive, but it was fun just going in. We spent a fair amount of time looking for some shops near the Trevi fountain that were recommended as good souvenir places, but for some reason we couldn’t find Trevi. I think we just missed it probably twice. We started getting hungry, so we ended up eating at a little place outside the Pantheon. I got a simple pizza margherita and it was quite delicious. While we were eating, we saw Rocky, our Florence tour guide, walk by and Ben yelled out to him. He was quite confused at first, but then I think he remembered us. It was a crazy coincidence though./p>

We spent some more time shopping after lunch, and I got myself an Italian soccer jersey of Gattuso – probably my favorite Italian player. It’s not the official jersey, but it’s a pretty cool one so I was happy. At some point we got tired and started walking back to the metro, only to run into the Trevi fountain on our way back. We found the shops and checked out the stuff, but after all that it wasn’t very good. Nothing we hadn’t seen before anyways. We took the metro back home and then needed some time to recover from the crazy heat. I believe I watched some Lost and did a little more homework. Around 4:00, Ben and Jessica decided they wanted to climb St. Peter’s cupola, which I had done the day before. I decided it was worth a second trip and joined them for the long walk up. It was lots of fun again and was easily worth the effort. At 7:30 I joined Amanda, Robin and Becky for dinner in Trastevere. I had yet to go there at night, even though it is probably the most well known place for young people and tourists at night. Part of the reason was probably because it was a forty minute walk. But we hoofed it and it ended up being quite worth it because the food was delicious and not too expensive. I got another pizza margherita for only 3 euro and then some risotto, which I had yet to try. Everything was really good, and the wine we got was actually one of the best we’ve had so far. We had a nice long Italian-style dinner and then strolled through the shops and bars of Trastevere for a little while before walking back. I was still feeling a cold coming, so I went to bed early, especially because I wanted to take a trip to Hadrian’s villa outside Rome on Sunday.
