History
A Brief History of USC Quiz Bowl
by Scott Callaghan
Prehistoric times (1952-1997)
The early history of the club is enshrouded in the fog of the
Internet. However, weeding thru the annals of Google, I discovered a few
sparse facts. The earliest mention of the club is in 1952-3, in a game
that we lost to Barnard College, 65 to 195, on a CBI-televised tournament.
We reappear in 1967-8, winning a streak of several games, before going
dormant for three decades.
The early beginnings (1998)
When we were good (1999-2001)
Rebuilding (2001-2002)
In 2001 we lost 2 Tims, 2 Joes, a Mike, a Natalie, and a Kristen,
all active and good members, to graduation. As a result, the club fell on
the shoulders of Scott Callaghan, a sophomore, and much of the next year
was devoted to rebuilding. Meg Lasswell, Vincent Diamante, and Sanjay
Madhav anchored the push to keep the club alive, and a slow trickle of new
recruits began, including Sofia Mohaghegh and Andrew Gonzalez.
Some good stories came out of this year. We got creamed
repeatedly but had some good times. There was a wild Friday up, Saturday
back run to Berkeley in which we traversed the entire campus, walking
uphill in circles. The entire campus is uphill. Trust me.
The club today (2002-)
(This history has been interrupted due to an unfortunate finals break... Come back for some real excitement at a later date.)
