I started my research internship at the Amrita Multi-dimensional Data Analytics Lab which was funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, under the guidance of Dr. Vidhya Balasubramanian at the end of my sophomore year. I learnt and implemented different RFID based indoor localization techniques to track people and objects.

Object Level Mapping of an Indoor Environment using RFID.

Research Project at Amrita Multi-Dimensional Data Analytics Lab, Coimbatore, India.

I co-authored a paper titled “Object Level Mapping of an Indoor Environment using RFID” in which we devised an algorithm to effectively generate an Indoor object level map of an Indoor environment using the data gathered from an handheld RFID sensor and Inertial navigational sensors. The system can help in times of an emergency i.e., a natural disaster by aiding in rescue operations and escape route planning. I, along with my team presented this work at Ubiquitous Positioning, Indoor Navigation and Location based Services (UPINLBS), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. The work has been published as a full paper in IEEE Xplore.

Question Paper Generator.

Academic Project at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (University), Coimbatore, India.

This application built using C++ automatically generates tests based on difficulty level, Subject and test length from a database of questions to aid teachers in preparing question papers. Students can take the tests from the student profile and the teacher can see student answers and grade them in case of a subjective test and view automatically graded student responses in case of an objective test.

Text Editor Using Linked Lists.

Academic Project at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (University), Coimbatore, India.

Built a fully functional text editor using linked lists in python. Each character was stored in a node. All the major functionalities like insert, delete, undo, redo, copy, paste, cut, find were built in the system.

Bus Route Finder using Graphs.

This system facilitates users to navigate through a city (implemented for the city of Coimbatore in India) using its bus transport system. It facilitates users to find best bus routes. The users have to enter the starting point and destination and the application calculates all possible bus routes with approximate travel times. The application also suggests a “best route” among the results. The bus routes need not only involve a single bus, but also bus transits when direct buses are not available. The application is currently being extended to include the bus and rail systems of the Indian metropolis of Chennai.

PEERNET: An Academic Social Network

Senior Year Academic Project at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (University), Coimbatore, India.

PEERNET will provide a platform for students and faculty to find people with similar interests to work together on projects or any learning or collaborative activity. This social network will connect people based on overlaps in interests, skills and requirements using efficient algorithms and mining techniques to evaluate profile similarity between different users of the system. The system will also facilitate effective learning (in terms of resources to refer) for people who want to learn a new topic or a subject by connecting them with the right people i.e., the experts. This system although simple, will aid in promoting a healthy and collaborative learning environment in an academic institution.

Awards and Achievements

Selected as one of the TOP 50 ideas from all over India for the HCL Genesis paper presentation competition

Presented a paper titled “Voice Isolation Technology”. This paper proposes a system to eliminate disturbances(noise) from external surroundings during a phone call. The system uses speaker dependent voice recognition to ensure lossless communication and clearer voice transmission.

Best Project Award in a competition conducted as a part of Amrita ICPC workshop.

Designed an intelligent learning algorithm to regulate traffic on roads in India. The algorithm works in an effective manner that could facilitate minimum waiting time for the vehicles and efficient traffic management . I used ‘Scratch’ to demonstrate the effectiveness of my algorithm. We are currently discussing the possibility of implementing it in the city of Coimbatore with the Corporation of Coimbatore city

Selected as one of the TOP TEN papers from all over India for the BOSCH iNSCRIBE

Paper presentation competition. Presented a paper on ‘Vehicle management system using Wi-Fi localization’ at BOSCH iNSCRIBE 2013 which was selected as one of the top ten papers from over 500 papers from all over India. The main idea of the paper was to conceptualize a Car assistance system which uses Wi-Fi based localization. The various functionalities of the system include automatic brakes and horns, parking assistance, basic theft detection mechanisms, etc. This directly solved issues such as noise pollution on roads in India.
