High School Recruitment
USC Table Tennis is looking to recruit highly skilled high school
and graduate table tennis players to play for the team. Qualified
and competitive students will receive assistance/consultation with
their application and application for financial aid. They will also
be flagged to the admissions committee for special interests, which
can provide a boost for borderline applicants. Recruited players will
go through the application process as usual.
To apply to the University of Southern California, visit the
following links and send an e-mail to
posse@usc.edu notifying us of your intent to apply to USC.

To be minimally eligible for Varsity recruitment, it is recommended
that you meet the following criteria:
- Cumulative and weighted (honors and AP classes) GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- SAT scores of 2000 or higher or ACT equivalent.
- A competitive table tennis background. USATT
membership and rating/ranking of 2000 and over recommended for boys, and
1600 and over recommended for girls.

The average GPA for freshmen admitted in 2004 was 4.0 weighted (honors
and AP classes) and the middle 50% SAT range was 1270 - 1440. High
SAT II scores and extracurricular activities will also add to the
strength of your application.
Freshman Misha Kazantsev went through the process first hand last
year, and would be happy to answer any specific questions about his
experience. You can contact him
.
The following is required:
- Serious consideration of USC as one of your top choice universities.
(Varsity recruits only, developmental team recruits are not required
to matriculate to USC should they be accepted).
- Applicants who are recruited and are accepted by the
admissions committee must join the USC Table Tennis club (Ping Pong Posse)
and play for the intercollegiate team.
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA or be in good standing (not on
academic probation) once admitted.
- Display good sportsmanship in competition.
Varsity vs. Developmental Recruitment- Those who are seasoned competition players,
generally with ratings of 1800 or above, are considered Varsity recruits.
The developmental team is designed for those students who do not meet
the rating requirement but still want to attend USC and would like
to receive application assistance. Generally, unless you are a seasoned
USATT player with a high rating, but you are the "best"
player in your high school, it takes about 2 years of additional training
on the developmental team to get to the standard of the Varsity team.
If you would like a recruiter to assess your table tennis skills,
please notify us via email at posse@usc.edu
of your campus visit. Or, if your high school is in the Southern California
area, we may be able to send a team member to your school. We also
look for players at local and regional tournaments. You can
find tournaments in your area at the USATT website.
If your high school does not have a table tennis program or good table tennis
equipment, email us, get us in touch with your president or dean and
we will help you start a program and get professional grade equipment
at discounted prices as well as instructors for your program.
