The Posse doubles team of Michael Kazantsev and Barney Reed failed to capture the Golden Paddle championship prize at the First Annual Grand Slam Paddle Jam. After steamrolling through their first two opponents in the single-elimination format, tournament officials decided to handicap the duo by forcing them to play with their opposite hand. Despite the impediment, Kazantsev and Reed triumphed in their quarterfinal match by the narrowest of margins - 11-9 in the final game! After much discussion, the tournament committee decided to impose yet another burden upon Kazantsev and Reed - they would be forced to start every game down 4-0 in a game to 11! Like true Trojans, Kazantsev and Reed fought bravely, but fell 11-4, 11-6 in their quest for the championship. For their efforts, Kazantsev and Reed each received a round-trip ticket on Jet Blue airways to be used anywhere within the continental United States.
