Project in Visual Anthropology
This website, created by Upjeet Chandan and Tricia Gilson, has been completed as the final project for the Ethnographic Film graduate seminar taught by Professor Fadwa El Guindi. The course was taught in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Southern California, Fall 1998. Our assignment was to create a website about visual anthropology that demonstrated our work and research in the seminar.
The website is divided into three topics: Process, Visual Projects, and Theory. Process is a text-based archive of discussions that we have had about visual anthropology, about ethnographic film, and about website design. Visual Projects are projects completed by some USC Anthropology faculty. Our theoretical essay is a reflection on what we have learned this semester, especially through the design of this website.
We would like to thank everyone who helped us complete this project, especially the faculty of the Anthropology Department who generously contributed their thoughts, ideas, and time. We received technical support from Mark Austin, Ilda Jimenez, Jay Key, Dennis Miranda, and Niki Rousso. The faculty who participated are Soo-Young Chin, Deirdre Evans-Pritchard, Janet Hoskins, Alexander Moore, Erin Moore, Andre Simic, and Joan Weibel-Orlando.
