1. Advisor
How do I find out who my advisor is?
Sheila Sanchez is the PASA advisor. She is a graduate of the PASA program and currently working on her Doctor’s of Education in Educational Leadership. She can be reached at smsanche@usc.edu. She will be available during orientation for questions regarding classes and scheduling. It is always suggested that you meet with your advisor at least once per semester.
2. Assistantships
How do I find an assistantship?
There are many ways to go about finding an assistantship. We are currently working on updating the PASA-bilities as well as the Graduate Position website (http://sait.usc.edu/gradjobs/). As more opportunities are available we will post them.
3. Do I have to have an assistantship before I begin school?
Many students enter their Fall semester without an assistantship. As the semester begins, departments will be looking to hire graduate assistants/interns. Check the PASA-bilities for employment opportunities. You will also be emailed many available positions on and off campus that are forwarded through the Master’s office. Please remember to check your email regularly.
4
. Is it possible to have more than one assistantship?
Working at multiple assistantships depends on the individual and the type of projects the individual will be working on. We all have different experiences with departments and opportunities. Feel free to ask a Board member or a continuing student about their experience.
5.
Classes
What classes should I take for the Fall?
Your Fall schedule will depend on your cluster. Most students will enroll in many of the same classes. The suggested course list will be posted on the Rossier School of Education Master's Program website.
6
. Housing
I didn't get housing, where do I begin to look for a place to stay?
Check with the housing office for rental listings. Some have found housing on sites such as Craig's List. Others have found housing by driving around the prefered neighborhood. You can always find openings posted around campus as well. Feel free to contact a Board member or one of the continuing students for additional assistance.
7. Orientation
will there be an orientation?
You should have received an Evite invitation to orientation. The Rossier School of Education will be holding orientation on August 14, 2009. On the same day, the PASA Network will also be holding an orientation with a social event to follow. You will be receiving an Evite information for that as well. New students will receive information to the email provided in their application for admission. Be sure to confirm that your contact information is updated.
There will also be a school-wide graduate student orientation on Monday, August 17, 2009. Visit this website for more information: http://sait.usc.edu/orientation/graduate/program.shtml.
8. Parking
How do I get a parking permit?
Parking permits are available through the Transportation website at http://transnet.usc.edu/.
Oh no, the only parking available is at the Parking Center! What do I do?
The Parking Center is located about a block from the campus gates. Although it is on the other side of the freeway, it really is a short walk or a quick shuttle ride from the campus. During the school year, many of your peers will be taking the same shuttle to and from campus.
9. Professional Associations
Which professional association should I join?
Both NASPA and ACPA are exceptional associations to join and participate in. Some students may prefer one over the other for a variety of reasons. For other students participation of a conference is determined by their availability to attend. If you have questions about finding accommodations, the Special Events Coordinator may be able to assist you.
10. When and how do I make arrangements for conferences?
You should try to make arrangements for conferences early. The Special Events Coordinator will be able to assist with questions regarding accommodations.
11. Tickets/Student Activities Card
How do I purchase tickets for football or other sporting events?
You should receive an email regarding ordering your football tickets. Once you sign up for the tickets you will be notified for which games you were able to buy tickets. All other sporting events are included with your student activities fees. All it takes is your student ID to gain access to any of the games.
12.
How do I find out about my financial aid eligibility?
You will receive an email from the financial aid office regarding what loans you have received. The loans should post to your account within a week before classes begin. Contact the financial aid office for more information (http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/applying_receiving/graduates/).
13.
I’m a conditional admit, what does that mean as far as my student standing?
Be sure to carefully read your terms for admissions. You will need to meet the requirements.
