Student Profile

Nathan Patrick Nowak is a fourth-term graduate student in the GIST program at the University of Southern California pursuing a Certificate and a subsequent Master of Science degree. Natively from Southern California, he is a recent graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara (2012) where he majored in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Natural Resources and Management Systems. During his undergraduate career, he performed bioacoustics research at Scripps Institute of Oceanography (SIO) studying the population structure of fin whales in the North Pacific through song pattern analysis. He presented his oceanographic research to University of California trustees and board members, in addition to receiving an Outstanding Poster Presentation and Undergraduate Research Scholarship Award at the 33rd West Coast Biological Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference.

He has practical experience with data analysis of natural resources, information technology, and project management. Nathan is highly motivated by the prospect of preparing for a long-term career in GIScience, incorporating the thorough understanding of Web-based GIS applications.
