Teaching Assistant, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, 2003-present. Teacher of first year Russian.

Graduate Assistant, State University of New York, Albany NY, 9/1999-12/2000. Duties included research assistant and assisting in classes "Decadence in Literature" and "Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, teaching and tutoring students. Taught lesson on "Ballets Russes and International Art as part of Decadence."

Founding Teacher, Academy of the Art of Eurythmy, Moscow, Russia, 1993-97. Full time teacher at the Academy. Duties included daily group lessons and private lessons, all given in Russian, as all students were Russian. Participated in founding the Academy by training Russian graduates of our school to staff the Academy. During these four years the Cultural Ministry of Russia, which granted state diplomas to all graduates in 1998, supported the Academy.

Teacher, Hawthorne Valley School, Ghent, New York, 1987-93. Teacher of eurythmy, Russian and French. Pioneered Russian program in 1989. Taught Russian students Russian folk dances and folk songs and organized local performances of them.

Teacher, Kashmere Senior High School, Houston ISD, Texas, 1980-82. Taught English in an all black high school to tenth grade remedial students. Offered out of class tutoring to many students. Tenth grade class sponsor. Wrote pioneer program for tenth grade to prepare students for PSAT and SAT tests.

"Platonov's Sweet Legend," presented at 2001 Slavists' Graduate Student Conference, Yale University, February 23-24, 2001.

And Still I Rise, Series of Performances combining African-American poetry, jazz saxophone and eurythmy (a form of dance), 1993. I conceived, researched, and directed this program, including asking an African-American poet and a jazz musician to join me, making contact with the black youth centers where it was performed and designing the sets, costumes and lighting. GRANTS

Admunson Fellowship, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, 2001-2003.

Scholarship award covering tuition, State University of New York, Albany NY, 9/1999- 12-2000.

Award of funds, 1993-97. Raised funds of up to $1000 per year toward emergency/medical fund for students of the Moscow Academy. As my salary at the Academy was $30 a month, I raised funds of $7000-$10,000 per year to support my teaching in Moscow and living 1-2 months in the U.S. each summer. The funds were received from a private foundation that accepted tax-deductible contributions from individuals to whom I sent an appeal each year.

New York State Special Opportunity Grant Awarded, fall 1992. Received grant to help pay for first four months of teaching in Moscow.

New York State Decentralization Grant Awarded, fall 1993. Received grant to help fund program And Still I Rise (see Independent Research), for performance in two black youth centers and Triform Community, both in Hudson, New York. Due to the program’s success, we were invited to give additional performances in private schools in the area and a black youth center in Spring Valley, NY.

PERFORMANCE ACTIVITIES

Series of artistic performance with slides, 1996-97. Slides I had taken in Russia accompanied by Russian poetry read in Russian and in English and Russian classical music. Little spoken commentary, so that the mood of Russia could be more powerfully expressed. Included an exhibition and sale of Russian folk art made by artisans I had met in Russia to raise scholarship money for students of the Academy.

Performer of Eurythmy, Academy of the Art of Eurythmy, Moscow, Russia, 1993-97. Included large performances, some taken on tour to other Russian cities, and others, performed in various centers and performance halls in Moscow.

Guest artist or speaker, U.S. and Russia, 1990-97. Invited to teach and/or perform eurythmy or speak about Russia at various conferences, seminars, and summer programs.

Performer of Eurythmy, Ghent, New York, 1987-93. Included various local performances and a large performance taken on tour throughout the northeast for two consecutive years.
