Welcome to my Electronic Teaching
Portfolio!
My name is Meredith Sheldon and I am currently a sophomore at the
University of Southern California. I am currently a psychology major and
occupational therapy minor, but teaching is something that I have always
had a passion for and I wanted to gain more experience in the field,
before making any final decisions about my major. My mom is a history
professor at Mills College, in Oakland, California, and I believe that
partly my mom has influenced my desires to help others achieve their
goals. My mom is one of the most remarkable women that I will ever meet.
She is such a strong, devoted, loving mother who has given me a
direction in life. She has taught me to follow my dreams, in pursuit of
my every goal, and I admire her for her courage, love, strength and
heart.
I am not sure exactly what I want to do with my life following my
graduation from USC, but I know I want to do something that relates to
children, because I think that children are so fascinating and love
watching them grow and developed into intelligent, mature, sophisticated
adolescents.
I was born in Piedmont, California and have lived their my entire life.
I love the community in which I grew up because feel that is providing
me with an extremely supportive and encouraging atmosphere. I was very
active at Piedmont High School, and could not have had a better four
years there. At Piedmont I met the most amazing best friend in the
world, Whitney Hoover, who has been my best friend for the past six
years and will be for the rest of my life. She is the most incredible
person, and I do not know what I would do without her - luckily I will
never have to find out.
While academics was my main priority in high school, I also became a
part of many other student groups and organizations, which contributed
to by overall learning experience. I joined the PHS cheerleading squad
my freshman year and was junior varsity captain my sophomore year and
varsity captain my senior year. I was able to advance my leadership,
communication, problem solving and team building skills as I led the
squad to both regional and national competitions, where we always
placed. I also continued my passion for dancing by joined the PHS Dance
Ensemble where I chosen as lead dancer for numerous shows. I have played
the violin since forth grad and was a member of the PHS String Orchestra
for all four years. I was also very active among our student body, as I
participated in many community service clubs and organizations. My
sophomore year I was nominated for Homecoming Court and my senior year I
was titled the “Most Spirited” of our senior class, both titles which
were presented in our yearbook.
When I came to USC, I knew that I wanted to continue to stay actively
involved in the school and the surrounding community. I am a member of
the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and am so lucky to have such kind, caring,
supportive, fun-loving sisters. I also serve as a student ambassador to
the university as a Pepster and am on the executive board. I also
participate in the Joint Educational Project (this is my second
semester) and it is a program that I hope to be able to continue.
Teaching is always something that I have been interesting in pursuing. I
think that children are so unique as they are the keys to our world’s
future. When I look back on my elementary school years, there are a few
teachers who stick out as being incredible influences and they inspire
me to want to reach out.
