The office building of Chinese Academy of Engineering is located nearby Desheng Gate, a famous historic building. Its owners and environment determine the particularity of the building. We attempt to solve two problems: one is to deal with the relationship between the building and Desheng Gate. The other is to shape its character as Chinese highest academic institution.

As the neighbor of Desheng Gate, the building should look harmonious but some characteristic, just like a gentleman. So its appearance is designed concise and unitary in order to avoid flaunt before the historic building. The shape of windows and materials are similar with the historic building. In addition, we design a large hall, in which people can see Desheng Gate from the best view.
