His Life

Antonio Vivaldi was born on March 4, 1678 in Venice, Italy.  His father, a violinist, encouraged Vivaldi from a young age to study the violin.  Vivaldi's mother was the daughter of a tailor.  Vivaldi was the oldest of nine children.  When he was fifteen years old he began training for the priesthood.

Other composers studied Vivaldi's work.  Composers such as the famous, Johann Sebastian Bach actually transcribed Vivaldi's work.  Vivaldi died in Venice in 1741 at the age of 63.
