I am a student here at USC, and I currently work for Professional Education Services. I am studying business and economics, but my major might change soon. As you may well imagine, the eight year old in this story was severely traumatized. While he maintains a cheerful disposition in his daily life, he suffers from problems with memory and learning that have been associated with the incident. A younger brother also suffers from behavioral problems. Because the parents feel such intense guilt and loss over their child, they have hesitated to enforce the disciplinary measures that they used with their older children. And, because of the high cost associated with not only the dui death of the brother, but also the ongoing treatments and therapy for the surviving family members, the medical bills are almost insurmountable. This family will never recover from this ordeal. It will follow them for their entire lives. However, there is things that are available for relief. Of course, all drivers should carry insurance coverage, but it is often extremely difficult in times of distress to wade through the red tape. Also, drivers who are irresponsible enough to have a dui are often not responsible enough to have proper insurance coverage. Having an attorney on your side could be the difference between a settlement that will eliminate the financial burden or having that debt continue to follow you for years. Nothing can ever replace a lost loved one. The pain will probably never completely go away. However, losing a loved one to a dui accident does not have to mean that the nightmare of bills and litigation has to take over your life. There are many attorneys that specialize in dui situations and can help you navigate through the process. Many don't even charge for the service until a settlement is reached.
