Inventory Management Software for Diamond Manufacturing Unit

This project was developed as a part of our Software Engineering Course curriculum during the 6th Semester. The main aim of this application was to automate the transactions of a local diamond firm right from inventory of raw materials to the sale of final products.

Tools and Technology: - VB 6.0, MS Access

Major features of our application: -

  • It runs on a local network consisting of about 20 personal computers

  • It consists of four different logins namely - Administrator, Sales Team, Purchase Team and Processing Team. Each of these users can access only a certain number of features of the applications assigned to them.

  • Maintain the database of all the employees currently working in the firm along with their department, designation and their salary. This component was basically used as an attendance system for the employees.

  • Maintain the inventory of raw materials as well as that of the final products along with its various attributes such as size, color, quality and weight

  • Each piece of raw diamond is provided a unique id during its entry in the system. This system maintained a database indicating which employee is working on which raw piece along with its estimated value. This helps in keeping track of each diamond piece right from the purchase of the piece to its sale

  • Produces variety of reports as per required by the firm such as profits/loss from a certain sale, amount of final product available with particular attributes, difference in estimated value and the value of the final product and so on.

  • Maintain the database of the customers along with their orders, order date, delivery date as well as the total amount paid and the credit amount.

  • Automatically calculate the prize of the final products which is a function of its attributes such as weight, color, quality etc and generates a bill for the customer.
